Deadline for poem submission is Sept 20, 2026. To register, email your poem to ipa@iowapoetry.com with Fall Workshop in subject line. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number. This workshop is FREE to IPA members ($20 for non-members which will include a 1-year IPA membership).

As you consider which poem you might submit (any subject in good taste, any form, 20-line limit), remember you will benefit most if you 1) send a poem that you are struggling with, not a "finished" piece; 2) come prepared to learn from comments about others' poems, too; 3) know that comments by either critics or workshoppers can be sifted and applied, or not, as YOU choose. It's your poem!

We are pleased to announce that Bill Rudolph will be our critic on October 17, 2026. His workshop will be:

"From ‘I remember’ to Mullen tanka and beyond.”

During the workshop, Bill will lead participants through the steps of a process that will draw from their memories, experiment with what they generate, and initiate crafting toward an original draft that, one day, could become a share-worthy poem (or a piece of creative non-fiction).

About Bill Rudolph

Most recently, William Rudolph’s poetry has appeared (or is scheduled to appear) in Chautauqua Literary Journal, Poetry East, North American Review’s “Open Space” (online), North Dakota Quarterly, Blue Heron Review, Thema, and Chiron Review. These days, when not coaching Grinnell College writers, he is working on a hybrid memoir comprised of family history, braided lyric essays, and poetry.
